Q. What is the Concordia library's plan to update resources to APA 7th edition?

When will students need to use the 7th edition of APA?

Answer

The American Psychological Association has published the 7th edition of the style manual. A recorded webinar that highlights changes is available here. A partial list of changes is found on this CU Libraries FAQ.

Some M.Ed. courses will begin to use the 7th edition in March 2020. Most College of Education programs/classes (undergraduate, M.Ed. and Ed.D. programs) will continue to use the 6th edition of the APA manual through April 2020 (at least). Nursing courses will start using the 7th ed. in summer 2020, and psychology courses will use it beginning in fall 2020. Students, be sure to check with your instructor about which edition to use.

Librarians will update our print and online APA resources to the 7th edition. The plan for updates follows:

  • Online APA style guide (LibGuide/research guide) - goal to complete mid-February 2020
    • The URL for the current (6th ed.) guide will stay the same for the 7th ed. guide; links to the 6th ed. will be provided on the 7th ed. guide
  • APA video tutorials - goal to complete a select few by April 2020 with all completed by August 2020
  • Print handouts -  will be completed in April 2020

We will continue to provide access to 6th edition resources as long as CU programs require use of that edition.
